Adoption Cases ~ Ancestor Research ~ Family Tree building ~ Creating Genealogy Family record books
Rural Roots Genealogy Services provides custom family history research - everything from getting you started on your family history journey, researching individual ancestors or entire family trees to updating old genealogy records or creating new ones entirely on your behalf. Maybe you need a family tree built for citizenship purposes or really want to know your family history but just don't have the time to do the research yourself. I also research on behalf of adoptees or birth family searching for long lost family.
Each individual client's needs and goals will vary so there's no set of standard plans or packages. I can give you a quote based on your goals and can also work within budgets as best as possible.
The key is to reach out, tell me about your situation and goals and go from there!
Rates & Options
First of all - inquiries are free. It costs you absolutely nothing to reach out! Let's chat and see what you'd like to do and go from there! I don't start the time clock until a plan has been made. You may also decide that hiring isn't right for you and that's okay. Don't hesitate to reach out! Once a goal is established and agreed upon and I begin actively researching - my rate is $35/hr.
Each individual has their own goals with their genealogy research and I can provide a variety of services. - Ancestor Research - Family Tree building - Creating a new or updating an outdated Family Tree record book - Making copies of documents at the Manitoba Archives for non-local residents - Family trees for estate settlement purposes - Searches for biological family
Invoices must be paid BEFORE research is provided. While the majority of folks are trustworthy, I've been burned enough times to have learned my lesson. While payment for my services isn't required up front, payment is required before you will receive the work I've done. Extensive projects I may request a retainer, depending on the scope of the project.
Forms of payment accepted: - E-transfer (preferred) - Credit or Debit card (client pays processing fees - 3% service fee and .30 cent invoice fee) - Money Order or Certified Cheque in Canadian dollars - Bank to bank wire transfer in Canadian dollars if none of the above are possible I will NOT accept Western Union, Pay Pal or other money transfer service.
The Archives does not have an archivist on staff to fulfill requests for documents. Those who are local can visit the Archives themselves to view and make copies of documents, but if you aren't local, you'll have to hire someone to do so for you.
My flat rate charge for a visit to the Archives is $175 - You have located in the site's index, documents you want copies of... you provide links of those and I will visit the Archives on your behalf to make copies. This fee is paid in advance of the visit.
My hourly rate for researching is $35/hr - If you have not located documents within the Archive's online index and need me to search the database to locate available documents on your behalf, if the documents you are seeking require me to research IN the Archives or if you have requested multiple documents that take more than an hour to review and copy.
A few things to note about the Manitoba Archives... - Be aware that some documents are held off site and the documents have to be brought in to the reading room to view. This process requires me to request such documents in advance and takes up to 3 business days from the date of request. Please contact me well in advance if you are on a time frame. - The way in which some documents are stored can make them incredibly difficult to copy and scans may not be perfect. For instance, some documents are folded and after many years of storage, they do not unfold easily. Depending on the age and type of material, extreme caution must be used to avoid damaging the documents and therefore the process to make copies can be very time consuming.
